Here is what some of our clients have to say:
Recommend the Ribeye steak!
Stayed at the Bear inn for one night, on a deal including evening meal and breakfast.Would recommend the Ribeye steak! Fantastic value for money with nice clean recently refurbished room and bathroom-shower only.A lovely old pub with plenty of history and character. It is the focal point of the town-only a couple of other shops there.Greg -the landlord was very friendly and welcoming.- Bampsy, London
Brilliant food- great service
Popped in for lunch on 6th April when we were early for our clay shooting lesson at West Midlands Shooting Ground. Expected a standard pub with 'ping ping' microwave food - nothing of the sort. The welcome was warm - the food was fantastic. Hodnet itself is a charming sleepy village and The Bear makes it well worth going out of your way to visit. Very impressed! - will return- Kendal Lad - Tripadvisor
Valuable edition to a picturesque village
We had a good night's sleep and in the morning woke up to the sight of Hodnet village blanketed in snow from the night before. We were served a really good breakfast in the lounge area downstairs before setting off again. Sorry we couldn't stay for lunch!
Hodnet is a picturesque little village and the Bear is a valuable addition.- Chidlom
Cycling through Shropshire
Six of us stayed at the Bear Inn, Hodnet when cycling through Shropshire two weeks ago. They were bicycle friendly, had refurbished and comfortable rooms. The Staff and Management were delightful and nothing was too much trouble for them so we felt welcome and our custom valued.
Furthermore, they have an excellent Restaurant which together with the Bar was full on the evening we stayed and the atmosphere in the place was friendly and cheerful. Thankyou to All at the Bear for making our stay a very pleasant one- J. Fonseca
Great Pub, Great Location
We were new to the area and stayed 3 nights, we had no frame of reference, so this was a random choice based on the location. No regrets at all. The pub is set in a picturesque village within easy reach of many attractions and places of interest
Thee rooms have obviously been recently refurbished and were clean and comfortable with fresh towels daily- Norfolk Commoner
The Bear Inn
The Bear Inn at Hodnet Shropshire was recommended by work colleagues, whilst working in Shropshire on business, engaged on a capital engineering project @ a food manufacturing plant. If it's a clean bed you require in within a pub environment at low cost after a long day, book the "Bear" you won't be disappointed. The service was first class, big thank you to Greg & the team for making me feel welcome, not forgetting "Jack" the dog!
The quality & presentation of the food was excellant. So! if you are passing the village or playing golf at Hawkestone stop off & say hello to the lovely folks at the "Bear Inn"- Gordon C D
We have been for Sunday lunch today and the food was absolutely delicious - the new owners are lovely - great menu and food - highly recommend a visit- Lexi - Tripadvisor
The bar has a good choice of local real ales, a new wine list reveals sensibly priced and eclectic wines with many available by the glass.
My eyes were drawn to a top shelf above the till with possibly the best selection of Cognacs, Armagnac and Calvados in Shropshire!!
We have eaten there a couple of times now, for a starter you must try the Charcuterie sharing platter, served on a wooden palette brimming with quality meats, even smoked pigeon and home made piccalilli, balsamic pickles and pate, humous & grilled artichokes and more- osojolly
Relaxing and Welcoming

Worth the visit!
The new owners are welcoming and friendly and the place has a different feel about it! We visited three times over three days! On each occasion we were warmly welcomed! The meal we had was fantastic and of a quality that surprised considering the food presented years ago!
I sense great things for the Bear! It has awoken!- Michael F
A most enjoyable lunch
Had lunch at the Bear on Friday with two old friends. The welcome on arrival was warm and friendly. The menu comprehensive without being too over the top. One of my friends had the lamb risotto and the other had the seabass which they said were superb. I had a burger which was the best I have had in a very long time.- Roger
Excellent friendly and helpful staff with excellent food and good homely feel in the bar breakfast was excellent and great value for money, would definitely go back there- Brian S
Quite a Find - Definitely one for a return stay
We found the Bear quite by chance, needing a room for just a night - and were not disappointed. A delightful village - where else would you find a rocking-horse shop???- B Nunn - Norwich
